Mrs. Yadao
Kindergarten
([email protected])
Hello! I am Mrs. Maribel Yadao ("yuh-dow", as in take a bow after a performance), and I am a first-generation, Filipina-American. I was born and raised in Chicago. I attended Sauganash for the Young Years, Queen of All Saints Elementary School, Loyola Academy College Preparatory High School, Depaul University, the American College of Education, and the University of St. Francis. I am a National Board Certified Teacher and obtained my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Digital Teaching and Learning. I have endorsements in English Language Arts and English as a Second Language. I student-taught at Sauganash Elementary School, and have been teaching here since 2006. I taught 1st grade for 8 years. This will be my 9th year teaching kindergarten.
This will be my 20th year teaching ballet at Chicago Ballet Arts (www.chicagoballetarts.org) where I began my ballet training at the age of 5. I performed in ballets in my youth, cultural Filipino dancing with the Philippine Performing Arts of Chicago, and Infamous, a competitive hip hop crew. I also danced in a summer intensive with the American Ballet Theatre in Detroit, and performed in Paris with the Universal Dance Association with other All-American dancers across the nation.
Prior to teaching, I worked and lived with children with exceptional needs at Camp Starfish in Rindge, New Hampshire for 40 weeks. As a counselor and administrator, I lived and worked with children on the Autism spectrum, children with bi-polar disorder, abused children, children living in poverty, suicidal children, and gang members. I take the strategies and tools utilized in this environment to help the students and families I serve.
I have a wonderful husband, Monico, who taught at Lane Tech High School for 13 years and is a former Redzovic Jiu Jitsu teacher. He now teaches at Queen of All Saints School as an 8th grade Language Arts teacher. I am lay minister at Queen of All Saints Basilica, serving as a lector, Eucharistic minister, wedding rehearsal coordinator, and sacristan. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my large family, especially my 1-year-old son, going to new restaurants, watching movies, taking adult ballet classes, visiting museums, coordinating weddings, and traveling.
