My name is Alan Gunderson and I am so excited to be coming back to Sauganash as a PE teacher this year! For the past three years I have been the PE teacher, athletic director, and coach of multiple sports at nearby Onahan Elementary school. Prior to that I was a TA at Sauganash for three years while completing a masters in education program and have worked with a ton of the awesome teachers across the school!
Throughout high school and college, I had always coached and worked in youth sports in different capacities and found it to be what brought me joy and purpose. I’ve always been serious about fitness, health, mentorship and sports, as well as having a genuine enjoyment working with children, so becoming a PE teacher was a very easy decision for me. I went to Butler University (Go Dawgs!) for my undergrad in exercise science and North Park for my masters in education and found both of those programs as well as three years in classrooms at Sauganash to prepare me extensively teaching.
Outside of school my hobbies are not all that different, I enjoy sports with friends, especially volleyball, and will sign up for anything competitive. I enjoy traveling and will have visited six different countries in 2024. If I’m not playing a game or traveling then you’ll find me on my couch with my dog Aspen.
As summer is in its waning weeks I look forward to seeing students that I haven’t seen in years and meeting a lot more new ones, and I am excited to continue some beloved traditions at Sauganash and bring in some new ones!
